THC-free, hemp-based products

CBD store opens on Main Street

By Angie Landsverk

Morgan and Jacob Trone are the owners of Your CBD Store Waupaca.

They opened their business at 104 N. Main St. on Oct. 1.

“We were the 23rd store to open, and the only one in Wisconsin,” she said of the Your CBD Store brand.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is extracted from flowers and buds of hemp plants.

Products containing industrial hemp are legal in Wisconsin.

Proponents of the products say CBD offers various benefits, without the “high” associated with marijuana.

“Our products do not have the THC added in them, but you are still getting the relief you’re looking for,” Morgan said. “We don’t want people to question any of our products, so we carry products with 0 percent THC.”

The hemp oil products they sell include water soluble oil, liquid tinctures, gel capsules, gumdrops, creams, lip balms, lotions and items for pets.

“We do a free sample of the water soluble daily, because it is a newer product, so people can try it,” Morgan said. “We do sample the topical pain cream as well.”

Those who use CBD do so to reduce anxiety, relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

CBD is not an approved treatment for the conditions, and has not been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Last June, the FDA did approve a purified form of CBD to treat seizures associated with two rare, severe forms of epilepsy.

The approval was for patients who are age 2 and older, and was based on controlled clinical trials.

Morgan came across CBD while doing research about alternative treatments for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivty Disorder (ADHD).

One of her children has ADHD and took medication for it during elementary school.

Her child later said she did not feel like herself when taking it.

“She felt like a zombie,” Morgan said. “We took her off the medication.”

Her daughter was doing well until she started high school.

She thought she might need to go back on the medication.

“It was going into the summer,” Morgan said. “We decided to see.”

That is when Morgan began doing research.

“A friend has a store like this in Louisiana,” Morgan said.

Her friend sent them a CBD sample just as this school year began.

Morgan also struggles with focusing.

“I started giving it to her and myself. Immediately, I noticed it was helping me focus, be able to concentrate, relax,” Morgan said.

Her daughter noticed a difference as well.

“I picked her up (at school). The first thing she said was, ‘Mom, I was able to focus all day. I took notes in math class,’” Morgan said.

Morgan and Jacob decided to visit her friend’s store in Louisiana to see if it was something they were interested in doing.

After making the trip, they knew they did.

Things fell into place quickly.

“Within a week, we had a lease signed, inventory coming,” Jacob said.

Their store is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

They may be reached there at 715-942-2229.

Both Morgan and Jacob have experience working in the finance industry.

He also owns Alarm Select, and is completing a degree in business management at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Little needed to be done to get their Your CBD Store Waupaca ready to open.

“We wanted to make it comfortable, clean, with the feeling of a boutique,” Morgan said.

She understands why some are hesitant to try CBD products, and is glad she was able to sample the product from someone she knew and trusted.

“When I saw the results, I knew it was a high quality product,” she said.

Morgan believes in the product and said her main goal is “to raise awareness about what CBD can do for people in pain, who are looking for a natural way of life.”

Jacob also decided to try CBD.

While at the store in Louisiana, their friend said to him, “Maybe you need it, too.”

After using CBD, he no longer has the urge to use nicotine, something he did off and on for 25 years.

“I stopped biting my nails,” Jacob said. “So to answer her question – yes, I did need it. I knew it wasn’t in my head.”
