CBD products is growing in popularity

by Lexi Wilson, Eyewitness News

Doctors are recommending it and many people are self-prescribing it.

CBD products are becoming more popular.

Lori Ascencio is 41-years-old. She suffers from full body pain. She’s tried everything, even chemo.

“I started making me feel like I was hit by a bus, I couldn’t get out of bed,” Ascencio said.

About 3 months ago, Ascencio started taking CBD oil.

“I’m able to get out of bed and function like I used to, it’s a product that works, and it’s a product that is drug free,” Ascencio said.

CBD is derived from marijuana but it’s not the ingredient that gets you high, that’s THC.

CBD is believed to have real medical benefits. Some studies show it helps with epilepsy. But CBD is heavily unregulated. Last year, the FDA sent letters to five manufactures because products didn’t have the levels of CBD they claimed to have.

“We’re very concerned about that and I think that’s one of the biggest issues people have to be aware of when they buy CBD is to make sure it’s reputable,” Gary Lowe said.

Gary Lowe is the co-founder and manufacture of Aponi products.

They sell topical’s and oil.

“We have products in all 50 states, and even in 25 different counties,” Lowe said.

Lowe says his customers range from veterans to mothers.

“People take a CBD product and ingest it and say I don’t feel anything so it’s not working but that’s the point, you’re not supposed to feel anything, your not supposed to feel high but most importantly you’re not supposed to feel pain,” Asencio said.

That pain is what causes people like Ascencio to try CBD and despite the unknown, she says it’s worth it.

“There are so many people who are afraid to try it, it does not test dirty and it doesn’t give you any sort of side effects were you’re impaired in anyway,” Lowe said.

Lowe recommends you talk to your doctor before using the product. Doctors say some side effects may include drowsiness if you take large doses.
